This may sound like a crazy idea, but how about promoting a freestyle concert at a club in Long Island somewhere. There's more than a handful of dj's willing to spin including myself. I'm sure we can all pull our resources together and make it happen.

We have done this in the past, but they dont turn out well. I had promoted a show a few years ago, along with my partner, SCOTMAN at MIRAGE. We had cynthia, and 2 artists that we managed at the time, ALISHA AND JOEY KIDD. the show was great and it was a fantastic turnout. we then started promoting shows at the Vanderbilt, with PARTY 105, but they didnt do as well. after the third week, they ended the series. It takes alot of time and effort to get these shows together. If an artist has a new song, esecially that it played heavily on the radio, the show would do great. but if theres nothing new on the table, chances are that a small turnout maybe inevitable.

Man that sucks! It was so easy back in the day at places like Escapes, Metro 700 & Avanti's in Bayside. These places always had such a good turnout. Thank god for sites like these that keep you in touch with the freestyle world.

escapes......that was my club back in the day! did you know that the beastie boys opened for madonna there? who would have known? I loved go there. I remember seeing stevie b and april there. i also remember machines, uncle sams/sin city/spit. I wasnt much of a nyc clubber when I was younger. We had all the same music here on long island. I guess all the horro stories I used to hear kept me away. now, I find that the nyc clubs are far much better than the long island clubs. it always seems as if the people in the long island clubs always have something to prove. its a shame when kids have to fight just to have a good time.

Im still trying to do another show in lindenhurst soon. we did one a few months ago and it didnt do well. I guess because there was another show that night in brooklyn and many long islanders already said they were going to that one. I didnt mind, I just wished we would have time to move it a day or so. it would have been great to have everyone there. where are you from on long island, alex?

I'm originally from Roslyn, moved to Glen Cove when I was 18 until I was 21, then I moved to Brentwood and as of September 2005, I've been living in West Babylon. The city did have good freestyle clubs too, like the Palladium, 1018, L'amour East, Paleds, Emerald City, Roseland, all of these i'm sure you're familiar with. I used to love Escapes though, I remember when I used to battle there around 1990. Who knows, we may have even been there the same night. Next time you have one of these gigs, let me know, I'll come through. I didn't know about the Beastie Boys though. I do remember Uncle Sams, Sin City and Spit. I still have all the flyers from all of these clubs including some from studio 54. You're definitely right about the long island kids with always having something to prove. I still think it's that way on long island now. I wish there were more freestyle clubs on long island. What about Laces in New Hyde Park, did you ever hang out there?

the battle? was that time you could go onstage and rap, sing or whatever? I did that too! I did a little rap I had a few years earlier. I still have it on tape. you provided the lyrics, and they provided the cheesy beats. that brings back so many memories!

glen cove to brentwood? that must have a been a big move. west
babylon is great. I used to hang out there years ago. I still go by once in a while to get some memories.

laces is one I never went to, but I heard of. i used to hang out at the USA ROLLER RINK in Massapequa (by ELONS) back in the day. it was the only place us youngsters could go to unless there was a teen night at escapes. I used to love the roller rink in massapequa. many of us on this site used to hang there as well. ah, the memories! is laces still around? the roller rink in massapequa is there still. looks so much much smaller now that were older.
