Mark Kalfa aka Nolan Thomas Yo lil brother

Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, Marko Kalfa began experimenting with the visual arts at an early age. He went on to study painting at the School of Visual Arts in New York. It was during this time that he became involved in the city's thriving music scene of the mid-eighties. He was soon discovered by legendary dance music producer Chris Barbosa and went on to lip snic the hit single Yo, Little Brother (the song was actually sung by Elan Lanier who is now the lead singer for "the unionn", Elan also sang the Freestyle song "Feels Good") and album of the same name with Atlantic Records. He toured the globe with renowned dance and hip-hop artists like Run DMC, Kurtis Blow, Shannon and Lisa Lisa. He continued to work as a singer ( sung "Once Around The Block") and songwriter (wrote the Freestyle song "never say never" for Yolanda Milla) for many years, working and recording with his band 2BFree on EMI and on solo projects with A&M Records.

Leaving his musical past behind him, he once again immersed himself in the visual arts and found himself working as artist, illustrator, fashion stylist and set designer. Some of his past clients include Converse, MAC Cosmetics, DKNY, Swindle Magazine, Jive Records, Bloomingdales and The Children's Television Workshop.

In the summer of 2002, Marko founded the cutting-edge menswear label GUIDO, where was Creative Director and Designer. GUIDO quickly established itself as one of the most prolific designer menswear labels to come out of New York in recent years. Their collections and runway shows garnered rave reviews by the major menswear publications and soon developed a loyal fan-base and customer. Partnering with MAO Public Relations, they have produced runway events during New York Fashion Week that rivaled even the more established labels. Marko was the creative force behind the elaborate settings and concepts that turned the runway into performance art; collaborating with award winning choreographers, costumers, visual artists, actors and models to produce some of the most memorable menswear shows in recent years. His designs have been worn by high profile celebrities like The Killers, Justin Timberlake, Ricky Martin and The Scissor Sisters and have been featured in countless national and international magazines and publications.

In 2006, he was nominated for the Fashion Group International Rising Star Award and The Ecco-Domani Fashion Fund Award for excellence in design. Declared a bright star in a dark sky by FLAUNT Magazine, he was recently featured in their Young New Yorkers On The Rise pictorial.
Marko continues to develop his obsession with popular culture, which is clearly evident in his recent work. His paintings have been exhibited in a solo showing at L'Atelier Space and as part of White Studio's Opus Group Show in New York City. This February, he will take part of Infusion Gallery's upcoming group show of emerging artists in Los Angeles. One is instantly captured by the immediacy and iconic spirit of his portraits, exploring our relationships with cultural icons and the lost innocence and idealism of a time gone by. He continues to exhibit his work on both coasts and produce commissioned works for commercial and private clients. Marko includes Andy Warhol, Steven Sprouse, Alex Katz, Picasso, Ellsworth Kelly and Peter Max among his many sources of inspiration.
